Science of Life
Introduction into Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a 3000 year old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. The term Ayurveda combines the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Thus the term Ayurveda; literally translates to the “Science/ Wisdom of life”. Ayurveda is more than a mere system of treating illness, rather it offers a body of wisdom designed to people stay vital while realizing their full human potential.
The key concepts of Ayurvedic medicine include universal interconnectedness (among people, their health and the universe), the body’s constitution, and life forces. The difference between Ayurveda and modern medicine is that Ayurveda focuses on the root cause of the problem, and treats the problem and entire body as a whole unit whereas modern medicine focus on the treatment of symptoms only.
Using these concepts, Ayurvedic physicians prescribe personalized treatments, including compounds of herbs, diet, exercise and lifestyle recommendations. The focus of Ayurveda is on complete wellness -physical, psychological, spiritual and social wellness.
